The Curriculum

A major emphasis will be placed on the Eastern hemisphere this year. As we leave the West and explore other parts of the world, students will be amazed at the expanse of this newly discovered territory .

This year, we'll attempt to cover nearly 4 million years of history and prehistory... not an easy task, especially since the average 6th grader has very little concept of time in decades, centuries and millenia. Timelines and the progression of prehistorical and historical events will soon come to life as students leave their limited world of Social Studies and history and enter into the world of the ancients.

A majot focus will be on the Ancient Civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, and the split of Ancient Rome into Feudal Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire.

Other units of study will include current events, Early Man, archeology and the geography of the eastern hemisphere.
